Frequently asked questions

  • Our classes include:

Hot 26+2: This class includes 26 set postures and 2 breathing exercises, practiced in a room heated to 105 degrees. This immensely popular style (originally called Bikram) is proven to improve sleep, reduce anxiety, lessen pain, and promote weight loss & strength gain. Our Hot 26 classes are 60 minutes long and set to the best music!

Hot Buti: Buti is a somatic movement practice that brings you HOME. It is way more than just a workout (although it’s known to cause a calorie burn of 600-900 per hour!!). Taken from thebutimovement.com, “Buti is creativity in motion, regulating the nervous system, balancing the energetic centers of the body while reconnecting the spirit to flesh.” This class is practiced at 80 degrees. There’s nothing else like it. We recommend committing to trying 2-3 classes to get the hang of it!

Hot Yoga: Our yoga classes are a true “ujjayi” breath practice: ONE breath per ONE movement. Inhale, exhale - this allows practitioners to get into a moving meditation state, where they shut off the pre-frontal cortex of the brain (the over thinker!) and turn “on” deeper levels of intuition and somatic experience. While fast-paced, the flows are beginner-friendly and based on the Ashtanga Series. This class is 90 degrees and we practice to beat-driven music without lyrics.

Warm Yin: Yin yoga is a slow-paced series of postures that are held for several minutes, allowing students to move beyond the muscular system and into deep layers of fascia and connective tissue to restructure the body in a way that faster-paced yoga styles don't allow for. It is a great class for beginners and the perfect YIN to the YANG of styles like Buti or Hot Power. Practiced in a 75 degree room that allows you to melt away tension.

We also offer a variety of dance classes, one-time events, workshops, and kids classes! Please see the Events page for details.

We use a forced hot air system with commercial-grade humidification (humidity levels 50%+) that provide a very pleasant and sweaty experience (without the “OMG, I’m gonna die!” feeling).

  • We use a gas-powered, high-efficiency forced hot air system, combined with commercial-grade humidification. Why?

Simply put, infrared heaters are detrimental to health. Radiant electric heat sources (such as infrared), which aim to heat the object in the room instead of the room itself, have been shown to cause cellular damage and destruction in organisms that are exposed to their wavelengths. Far infrared has also been shown to cause damage to retinal tissue and collagen stores, contributing to aging. Our forced hot air + humidification system provides an experience that is more like a tropical island than an arid desert, and we like it that way.

We aim to be your little slice of the equator here in Maine.

Sami is the owner and founder of Uprise, and coming to her classes ensures you will have the most welcoming experience possible.

  • We always recommend booking a class before coming in to the studio, to ensure you have a spot saved. We have a small studio and classes fill up quickly. Walk-ins are welcome, but there is no guarantees of a spot in class. To book a class, visit our schedule page here.

The easiest way to book and cancel classes is through the Walla app. Download it here!

  • We highly recommend you bring your own mat. We have a small number of mats available for use. We also recommend bringing a full water bottle and a small towel. We have filtered spring water available to fill up.

  • If you are running late to class, we ask that you call the studio so the teacher is aware. Please note that we have a “zero minutes late” policy for everyone’s safety & enjoyment. This ensure that teachers & students will be able to start class on time.

If a student needs to cancel a class booking, they must make sure to do so at least 8 hours prior to the start of class. If a student is unable to attend a booked class or if they fail to cancel 8 hours prior, their account will be charged a $3 fee and the class will not be refunded (from a class pass, drop in, or limited membership). We often have a waitlist for our classes, and this policy encourages students to cancel early so another student has the opportunity to practice. See how to cancel a booking here.

Cancelling a class is easy and can be done via the website, mobile, and our app. Cancel at least 8 hours before class to avoid our no-show fee.

We donate these fees at the end of each month to a charity of our choosing.

  • If a class is full, you can sign up for the waitlist. You will be notified at least 30 minutes prior to the start of class if you have been moved from the waitlist into the class. You can remove yourself from the waitlist at any time.

  • *Not yet! We are brand new, and we have a grand vision for this space, which includes expanded showers & changing rooms by the end of 2024. Please bear with us during these early stages. We appreciate your patience!
