Classes at Uprise

  • HOT 26 + 2

This class includes 26 set postures and 2 breathing exercises, practiced in a room heated to 105 degrees. Popularized by Bikram, this immensely popular style is proven to improve sleep, reduce anxiety, lessen pain, and promote weight loss & strength gain. The pace of this class is slow, methodical, and meditative, but challenging. It will satisfy beginners and advanced yogis alike! Unlike other Hot 26 classes, ours are 60 MINUTES and include great music!

  • HOT BUTI

Buti is a somatic movement practice that brings you HOME. “Buti” means “the cure to something hidden beneath the surface.” It is way more than just a workout (although it’s known to cause a calorie burn of 600-900 per hour!!). Taken from thebutimovement.com, “Buti is creativity in motion, regulating the nervous system, balancing the energetic centers of the body while reconnecting the spirit to flesh.” This class is practiced at 80 degrees.

  • HOT YOGA

Our yoga classes are a true “ujjayi” breath practice: ONE breath per ONE movement. Inhale, exhale - this allows practitioners to get into a moving meditation state, where they shut off the pre-frontal cortex of the brain (the over thinker!) and turn “on” deeper levels of intuition and somatic experience. While fast-paced, the flows are beginner-friendly and based on the Ashtanga Series. This class is 90 degrees and we practice to beat-driven music without lyrics.

  • WARM YIN

Yin yoga is a slow-paced series of postures that are held for several minutes, allowing students to move beyond the muscular system and into deep layers of fascia and connective tissue to restructure the body in a way that faster-paced yoga styles don't allow for. While still challenging in its own right, it is a great class for beginners and the perfect YIN to the YANG of styles like Buti or Hot Power. The warm room of 75 degrees helps you melt away tension. Accompanies by various styles of soundscapes.

  • WHY HOT YOGA?

    WHY practice hot yoga?

SWEATING is a critical part of any detoxification process, which is crucial for health. Most group fitness classes don’t allow for a deep sweat, and it’s especially important if you live in a place like Maine, where it’s chilly for most of the year! Sweating regularly improves sleep, immunity, metabolism, and even life span, studies show! Our classes are practiced with forced hot air + humidification, so they are more tolerable and you don’t have the unwanted effects of infrared heat.
